Presenting my latest game-ready 3D prop: a magical staff featuring an organic wooden structure cradling a glowing crystal cluster. Built with a strong focus on high-fidelity texturing and an optimized real-time workflow utilizing 2k textures throughout.
Polycount: 19,657 triangles (fully game-ready).
UV Layouts: 3 distinct 2k texture sets (crystal, staff, and leaves). Each leaf type shares a single 2k base color and supporting maps for efficiency, while the staff UV shells make use of stacked shells.
Workflow & Pipeline
Modeling & Sculpting: The base mesh of the staff was blocked out using ZSpheres, followed by high-poly sculpting to carve organic details. For the moss semi circles with half of the edge loops dissolved were used and adjusted using soft selection.
Retopology: Clean, optimized retopology was performed using RetoPoFlow 4, baking high-poly detail seamlessly onto the low-poly mesh.
Texturing: Hand-crafted in Substance Painter using 2k texture maps, leveraging anchor points, generators, and curvature passes to build rich wear and depth.
Rendering & Look Development
Engine: Rendered using Arnold in Maya.
Lighting: Three-point lighting system paired with a custom mesh light inside the crystals for a genuine glow.
Material Shading: Subsurface scattering (SSS) applied to the staff and leaves for organic translucency.
Post-Processing: Final compositing in Photoshop to enhance the mystical atmosphere.
